The Wait is Worth It: Finding Peace and Power in God’s Timing

Waiting on God can be one of the most trying experiences for believers. It’s not because God isn’t faithful—He always is. The challenge lies in the way time tests our faith, often tempting us to doubt whether He is truly at work. Add to this the voices of the world—friends, family, and even our own thoughts—that may contradict what we know to be true in God’s Word, and the wait can become a battlefield for the soul.

But take heart, dear believer. You are not alone in this struggle, and God has already equipped you to triumph. Here are ways to stand strong in faith, silence the noise of the world, and keep your eyes fixed on Jesus as you wait for His promises to manifest.

1. Recognise the Enemy’s Tactics: Time as a Weapon of Doubt

The enemy often uses the passage of time to plant seeds of doubt. When God’s promises seem delayed, anxiety and uncertainty can creep in. Psalm 54:4 reminds us, “Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.” Cling to this truth: God is sustaining you even in the waiting. Every moment is part of His divine process.

In Isaiah 41:10, God declares, “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Meditate on this verse daily. Speak it aloud when doubt tries to settle in. Remember that your waiting is not wasted; it is building endurance, character, and unwavering trust in Him.

2. Combat Anxiety with Prayer and the Word

The Apostle Paul gives us the blueprint for overcoming anxiety in Philippians 4:6-7:
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Anxiety thrives in silence, so speak to God! Pour out your heart to Him in prayer, then release your burdens into His capable hands. As you pray, declare His promises over your life. For example:

  • When you feel weak: “I can do all this through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13).
  • When the wait feels unbearable: “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength” (Isaiah 40:31).

The Word of God is your anchor. Let it fill your heart and mind until there is no room for fear or doubt.

3. Guard Your Atmosphere

While you wait on God, your environment matters. The world often operates contrary to faith. You might believe in God’s power to raise the dead, but the world will say, “Prepare for burial.” This tension can create confusion and conflict. In such moments, it’s essential to guard your heart and surround yourself with believers who align with God’s truth.

Hebrews 10:35-36 encourages us, “Do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.” Confidence thrives in a sanctified atmosphere, where faith is nurtured through worship, prayer, and fellowship.

Here’s how to keep your atmosphere clean:

  • Reduce worldly distractions. Limit conversations with people who speak against your faith or encourage doubt. Instead, draw closer to those who will intercede with you and uplift you.
  • Prioritize prayer and worship. Keep your focus on God through daily communion with Him. Psalm 46:10 reminds us, “Be still, and know that I am God.”
  • Meditate on His Word. Let scriptures like Psalm 121:1-2 and Lamentations 3:22-26 fill your thoughts. When God’s truth saturates your mind, the world’s noise loses its power.

4. Align Your Heart with Jesus

When the waiting grows long and the pressure to conform to worldly expectations intensifies, it’s vital to align your heart with Jesus. He is the perfect example of unwavering faith in the Father’s promises. Remember, He faced opposition and disbelief too. Yet, He stayed focused on His mission, knowing the Father’s Word never fails.

John 11 gives us the account of Lazarus’s death. While everyone else had given up hope, Jesus declared, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” (John 11:40). Jesus raised Lazarus despite the doubts of others—and He will fulfill His promises in your life as well.

Identify with Jesus in your waiting. Let His victory become your confidence. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

5. Stay Rooted in Faith, Not Feelings

Feelings are fleeting, but faith is firm. Psalm 37:7 urges us, “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.” Patience isn’t passive; it’s an active trust in God’s timing and methods.

When the world shouts for you to give up or move on, cling to Hebrews 10:23: “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” God is never late. His timing is perfect, and He is working in ways you cannot yet see.

6. Testify and Strengthen Others

Your waiting is not just for you; it’s a testimony in the making. As you hold fast to God’s promises, you’re demonstrating to others that His Word is worth trusting. Share your journey with fellow believers to encourage them in their own waits.

Conclusion: Jesus Is Worth the Wait

Believer, do not lose heart. The world’s ways are not your ways. You serve a God who defies human logic, raises the dead, and fulfils every promise in His perfect timing. Psalm 73:26 declares, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Let this be your anthem.

Fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2). Refuse to let doubt, time, or the world’s opinions shake your confidence in Him. He is faithful, He is working, and His promises are on the way. Wait with expectation, worship with abandon, and walk in victory—because your God is able!
